Fire stations provide a wide variety of functions to both residents and fire department personnel. Fire stations are easily identifiable buildings with people inside that know a lot about the Sylvania community. Firefighters can assist residents with driving directions, check blood pressures and give pointers on safety topics such as car seats. For children, stations can serve as a classroom for the elementary aged to learn about fire safety, serve as a meeting place for a local cub scout den, a place for a young boy to have a birthday, but most of all a “safe place.” For firefighters on duty, these buildings serve as a home away from home as personnel not only work together but also eat and sleep together. As a resident of Sylvania, feel free to stop by your local station and talk to the station officer. If the personnel are not busy competing essential tasks or training, they would be more than happy to give you and your family a tour or answer any questions you may have!
