At the Tuesday, March 18, 2025, Sylvania Township Board of Trustees meeting, the Board had the honor of presenting the 2025 Distinguished Citizen Service Award to Tara Haye!
The Distinguished Citizen Service Award, established in 2021, recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the Sylvania community. After a thoughtful selection process, Tara was chosen for her tireless work and dedication to creating a lasting impact.
Tara currently serves as the President of the Stranahan Elementary Parent Teacher Association and has been the driving force behind the Inclusive & Accessible Playground Initiative. This incredible project, which will break ground this summer, aims to build an outdoor playground that is inclusive and accessible to both typically developing children and those with special needs. The playground will address physical, sensory, social-emotional, and cognitive accessibility, ensuring that all children can play together.
As the mother of a child with complex medical needs, Tara understands the profound impact this project will have on approximately 13% of Sylvania students with special needs and the entire community.
Tara's leadership and experience—gained from her time as an executive at Aldi, where she led teams and managed over $3 billion in sales—have been key to organizing and executing this initiative. Thanks to her efforts, the overwhelming majority of the fundraising goal of this $650,000 project has been met through numerous fundraising and grant activities.
We are so proud to recognize Tara's dedication and passion for making Sylvania a better place for everyone. Congratulations on receiving the 2025 Distinguished Citizen Service Award!
