Zoning Commission
The Sylvania Township Zoning Commission met Dec. 11 and granted a zone change request from C-2 (General Commercial) to R-A (Low Density Residential) for the property located at 4829 Sadalia Rd.
Daryl Graus, Township Planning and Zoning Manager, concluded the meeting by thanking Commission member Mary Himmelein for her years of service and “excellent leadership” of the Zoning Commission. Himmelein has resigned after 20 years of serving on the commission, many of them as chair. She will continue as an alternate when needed.
JEDD Board applications
The Sylvania Township Board of Trustees is accepting applications for an appointment to the Sylvania Joint Economic Development District I Board of Directors as the worker member. (This position represents the interests of the employees working within the district.)
The appointment would be for the remainder of a term lasting through Aug. 2, 2028. Applicants must be a Sylvania Township resident and at least 18 years old.

Christmas tree drop-off
Sylvania Township residents can dispose of their Christmas trees, without plastic bags, in a fenced-in area at the southwest corner of the parking lot of the township administration building, 4927 Holland-Sylvania Rd. All lights, decorations, and tinsel must be removed. There will be no street-side tree collection.

Grant support given
At the Dec. 17 regular meeting, Sylvania Township Trustees passed a resolution to be the government sponsor on behalf of Recycle Services for an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Market Development Grant application.
The company would like to apply for a $200,000 grant and will supply the matching funds. Recycle Services, LLC would use this money to purchase an optical sorter to support its recycling business.
